How To Cook A Perfect Steak
Before we start, let’s talk about resting. If you cut into a steak immediately after cooking it, the juices will flow out of the steak and onto the cutting board. This can make the steak dry and less flavorful, as the juices contain a lot of the steak's flavor.
On the other hand, if you allow the steak to rest for a few minutes after cooking, the juices will have a chance to redistribute throughout the meat. This will make the steak more tender and flavorful when you finally do cut into it.
In general, it's a good idea to let steaks rest for at least 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving them. This will allow the juices to redistribute and will result in a more tender and flavorful steak.
Why you should strive for medium rare.
Flavor: Steak that is cooked medium rare tends to be more flavorful and tender than steak that is cooked well done. This is because the heat used to cook the steak has less time to break down the fats and proteins, which can make the steak taste dry and tough.
Nutrition: Steak that is cooked medium rare may also be more nutritious than steak that is cooked well done. This is because the heat used to cook the steak has less time to break down the nutrients in the meat.
Personal preference: Ultimately, whether or not you should eat your steak medium rare comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer their steak cooked more or less than others, and there is no right or wrong answer. If you enjoy the taste and texture of medium rare steak, then there is no reason not to continue enjoying it.
Cooking steak can be the most rewarding experiences in the kitchen. The process is pretty easy once you understand the basics. Here is what you’ll need.
You will need a nice thick steak of at least 1 inch. (Stay away from thin steaks if you want juicy medium rare meat.
A very hot pan
A thermometer (we suggest Meater but a standard one will do)
Seasoning (we prefer just salt and pepper but you can use steak spice)
NO OIL! A dry pan will create a better sear or crust on the steak
Remove the steak from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This will help the steak cook evenly.
Preheat your grill, broiler, or stovetop grill pan to high heat.
Season the steak with salt and pepper on both sides. You can also add other seasonings or marinades if you prefer.
Place the steak on the hot grill or pan and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer your steak more well-done.
Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of the steak after 8 minutes of cooking time. (Medium-rare: 130-135°F, Medium: 140-145°F, Well-done: 160°F and above)
Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for at least 5 minutes on a cooling rack before slicing and serving. This will allow the juices to redistribute and the steak will be more tender and flavorful.
Enjoy winning the steak game!
